Choosing a paint or stain color can be overwhelming with literally thousands to choose from. And it is not just the color you must consider it is also which finish (flat, eggshell, semi-gloss, satin, etc.) to use.

If you have ever painted a room or an entire house yourself you know what a tedious, messy job it is. Once you are done it is inevitable that you will need to repaint or touch up damaged areas. That is why it is important to document the paints you use.

Some people write the paint colors on the back of a switch plates in their newly painted rooms, this is probably not the best approach because you have limited space and may need to document wall, ceiling and trim colors and their corresponding brands, finish, etc. and you must remove the switch plate to access the information.

Instead create a digital copy for your records. This can be a stand-alone document or an addition to your home record which can contain all of the details about your home that you need to remember. Keeping a Home Record

Record the room or area you painted, the place you purchased the paint, the brand, color, finish, any adjustments you made to the color and anything else you want to be reminded of. Don’t forget to include any stains and finishes you have used.

Keep the document on your computer, you can also keep a printed copy with your important paper documents. Furthermore, keep a copy of the file in the cloud so that you can access it from your phone while you are away from home, if you are out shopping for paint you can refer to it.
