Elon Musk Appointed to Twitter Board After Becoming the Company’s Largest Shareholder

This month Tesla CEO Elon Musk has taken a 9% stake in Twitter. This makes him the largest shareholder in the company. Musk purchased 73.5 million shares which cost 2.9 billion. Musk has over 80 million Twitter followers and he posts on Twitter often. He says he is concerned about Twitters free speech policies.

Twitter announced Musk would be appointed to its 11-member board. His term will expire in 2024.  In a deal with Twitter Musk has agreed not to own more than 14.9 percent of Twitter’s stock or take over the company.

FBI Releases Annual Internet Crime Report

Each year the FBI releases its Annual Internet Crime Report. The report is largely compiled of complaints it receives from Americans about scams, crimes, and other fraudulent activities.

There were over 30 types of crimes reported. The top three are phishing scams, non-payment/non-delivery scams and personal data breaches. Identity theft and extortion also top the list.

Inventor of the GIF Passes Away

Stephen E. Wilhite, the computer programmer who invented the GIF, died on March 14 in Cincinnati Ohio. He was 74. Wilhite received a Webby Award in 2013 for his invention. The pronunciation of “GIF” has long been debated. In his acceptance speech which was five-word’s “that’s all the Webbys allow”, he flashed a GIF on the big screens at the Cipriani Wall Street in New York. It said, “It’s pronounced JIF, not GIF.” Since he was the creator of the GIF, I will side with him.
