That Facebook Quiz is Probably a Scam
According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over $2.7 billion dollars was lost to social media fraud in the US between 2021 and mid-2023.
If you are a Facebook user, you have undoubtedly come across quizzes on the site, what might look like a harmless quiz is most likely a scam.
Many of the quizzes you see on Facebook and other social media platforms are actually data collection scams created by criminals. These quizzes appear to be harmless but the intent behind them is to get you to answer questions that are similar to the security questions you are asked when you sign up for an online account. They use the collected data to piece together passwords and security information which can be sold on the dark web and used to break into your accounts, open new accounts, steal your identity and impersonate you online. If you take these quizzes, you can never recover the information you provide. In addition, the links, images, and other elements within the quizzes may contain malware which can infect your devices.
To be safe never participate in quizzes on social media.
Review your social media privacy settings and be cautious who you are sharing with.
Don’t overshare personal information, even seemingly harmless details and photos can lead to fraud.
Don’t accept friend requests from people you don’t know in real life.
