Lexis Nexis is a Consumer Reporting Agency. Businesses and individuals use Lexis Nexis to run background and credit checks on customers. This can include employers, landlords, lending institutions, insurance companies and others.
Lexis Nexis also provides consumer reports to the three major credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
The information contained in a Lexis Nexis report can include mortgages, bankruptcies, liens, licenses, court judgements, current and previous addresses and other information.
Lexis Nexis gathers much of this information from federal, state and county databases.
The Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) gives consumers the right to obtain a free annual copy of their report and dispute any mistakes that are found.

Placing a security freeze on your Lexis Nexis report protects you by making it harder for identity thieves to open accounts in your name. Once a freeze has been placed you can unfreeze it at any time either temporarily or permanently.
