
Smartphones allow us to easily look up information, including phone numbers, but don’t depend on search results. Use the contacts app on your phone to save your important numbers. The contacts app allows you to not only save phone numbers but other information about the contact as well providing a useful database of information.
ICE (In case of emergency)
Having an ICE contact on your phone makes it easier for emergency responders to contact the person you designated as an emergency contact if you are involved in an accident or medical emergency.
The contact entry should include your emergency contact’s name and their relationship to you, their phone number and address, their place of employment, your address, list of allergies, medications you take, blood type and any medical conditions you have.
Local Fire Department
The fire department not only responds to fires, but they are also trained to help with other things as well, including pet rescue, medical emergencies, and hazardous material handling. They also provide services such as smoke and carbon monoxide detector installation and education, CPR and defibrillator training and fire extinguisher training.
Local Police Department
You should call 911 when someone’s life, safety, health, or property is in immediate danger. But there are times when you can call the police department directly, some examples are crimes where there is no injury or emergency such as burglary, stolen cars, vandalism, harassment, trespassing, threats, disabled vehicles, traffic hazards and noise disturbances.
Poison Control Center
Poison Control is a government funded service staffed by people who are specially trained to assist callers who have been poisoned or suspect they have been.
Animal Control
The purpose of the animal control agency is to protect pets and wild animals from danger. They also protect people and property from the nuisance and dangers of uncontrolled animals. They are called to help injured animals, respond to reports of animal abuse and to remove dangerous or problematic animals.
A Locksmith
You don’t think of a locksmith until you need one, they can help if you are locked out of your home or car or if you need to change your locks.
Medical
Add your family doctor, pediatrician, dentist, eye doctor, specialists you see, your local hospital and pharmacy. If you are a pet owner add your veterinarian’s number.
Utility Companies
You will need these numbers to report outages, gas leaks, water main breaks, and downed power lines.
Credit Card Companies & Banks
If your debit or credit card is lost or stolen or you have questions or concerns about your accounts you will need to contact these institutions.
Insurance Companies
Home, auto, and health insurance are important numbers to have when needed.
Roadside Assistance
If you have roadside assistance coverage include it in your contact list.
Next Door Neighbors
You never know when you might need to contact your neighbors, add their numbers to the list.
Family & Friends
Add any friends or family that you contact regularly.
Workplace
Add your supervisor’s number and anyone else you may need to contact at your workplace.
Furthermore, it is a good idea to keep a hard copy of important phone numbers in the event your phone is lost, stolen, or broken. Most of us don’t memorize phone numbers anymore, including those belonging to our friends and family. Keep a phone book at home in a safe location so that you have access to these numbers if you need them.
Backup your smartphone regularly, you don’t want to lose important information if something happens to your phone.
