Gmail has more than 1.8 billion active users, establishing it as one of the most popular email platforms in the world. Google is not just email but a wide range of other services as well and you want to make sure your account is secure. Take a few minutes to review the security settings in your Google account. One setting to check is which devices and third-party services have access to your account.

You can review your security settings on your phone, tablet or computer.

Using a Computer

Go to google.com/devices or open your Google account and click your profile picture icon in the top right corner and then select Manage your Google Account.

Click Security in the menu and then scroll down and in the Your devices section click Manage all devices.

Review the list of devices logged into your account. If you find something you don’t recognize select the entry and click Sign out.

If you remove an entry you don’t recognize it is a good idea to change your password and make sure you have 2-Step Verification turned on because an unknow entry could indicate your account has been compromised.

Also review what third-party services are linked to your account. Some applications and services offer the option to connect with your Google account to improve your user experience. You should be very selective when granting access to third party services. If one of these services was ever compromised your account could also be compromised. Many of these apps and services are questionable when it comes to security and often request excessive permissions when linking to your Google account, which can grant them more access than necessary.

Next to Your devices you will see Your connections to third-party apps & services. Click See all connections. Review the list and if you find a service that doesn’t need access select it from the list and then click Delete all connections you have with “name of service” Click confirm in the menu that opens.

Using the Google App

Open the Google app on your device and tap your profile picture icon in the top right corner and then select Manage your Google Account.

Tap Security on the menu at the top and then scroll down and in the Your devices section tap Manage all devices. Just as you would on a computer review the list of devices that are logged into your account and remove any that you don’t recognize.

Then scroll down and find Your connections to third-party apps & services. Tap see all connections. Review the list and if you find a service that doesn’t need access select it from the list and then tap Delete all connections you have with “name of service” Tap confirm in the menu that opens.
