The top three national credit reporting agencies (NCRAs), Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion announced that Americans will now have free weekly access to their credit reports.
Executives from those companies said they are “reinforcing their commitment to the financial health of U.S. consumers” with this move.
Prior to the pandemic, free credit reports from each agency were available annually. But, due to the economic instability caused by the pandemic, the agencies shifted to allowing consumers to check their credit reports each week. This was extended until the end of 2022, and then again into 2023. Now the extension is permanent. This is great news for consumers, checking your credit reports is important because it directly correlates to your overall financial well-being. Your credit score is based on the information in your credit reports. Your credit reports can also alert you to identity theft, if fraudulent accounts have been opened in your name, they can show up on your credit reports.
