I often use Google Maps for driving directions, but I also use it to mark my parking location so that I can easily find my way back to my vehicle. And I use it to share my location with family and friends. Both features are very useful and easy to use.
Saving Your Parking Location & Finding Your Vehicle
When you arrive at your destination, open Google Maps and tap the blue dot representing the current location of your vehicle.
After clicking the blue dot, scroll to the right and tap “Save parking” After saving the location you can add parking notes and set a timer if you like. You can also save the location to use at another time.
The parking location will appear at the top of the Google Maps search. When you want to locate your vehicle select the parking location by clicking the “Search here” bar in Maps or tap the “You parked here” icon on the map, then tap the directions icon to get driving, transit, walking or biking directions to your vehicle.
Tap more info to clear the parking location when finished.
You can also use Google Assistant to save a parking location without opening Google Maps. Just say “Hey Google remember where I parked my vehicle” the location will be saved in Google Maps. When you are ready to locate your vehicle just say, “Hey Google where did I park my vehicle” and Maps will open showing you the location.
Sharing With Others
You can also share your location or share your real-time location with others. Sharing your “location” in Google Maps means sending your static, current location as a one-time snapshot. “Real-time location” means continuously updating your position on a map for a set period or until you manually stop sharing. Real-time is for live tracking, while a static share is for a one-time “you are here” message.
In Google Maps tap the blue icon indicating your current location then tap either “Share this location” or “Share real-time location” then select the person you want to share with. When you choose real-time location, you can specify a time for the sharing to be active or select “until you turn this off”
